2011 National Contest Results

Trevor Bremner, Principal Cornet player for NP Brass retained his title from last year as the winner of this year’s Masters Solo event. He also won the 65-74 age group section of this event, and then went on to gain 2nd place in the Champion of Champions event. An outstanding achievement for our world renownCornetist

Other commendable performances were:-

Mathew Lamb -   2nd in the Junior under 19 yr Trombone solo event

James Fuller -     2nd Open Percussion Solo event

Leigh Martin -      2nd in BBb Bass Solo. Leigh is also the Musical Director of NP Brass.

Ken Austin, Blake Cameron, Rowena Howard, and the Open Quartet all played with aplomb finesse and although unplaced they represented NP Brass with great credit.

In the Band Events:-

NP Brass gained a 2nd in the Own Choice Test Music, and although the Band felt they had performed at their best, they couldn’t quite convince the Judge of a top three place for the Hymn and Contest Test piece. Overall the band was awarded 5th place.

NP Brass, lead by Drum Major Amanda Bollond, gained 2nd place in the B Grade Section of the Street March now known as the Parade of Bands event. In the music element of the March the band got 1st=.

NP Brass has a week off before rehearsing for the Central Districts Contest in Hastings on the 3-4 September. Players are keen to continue their pursuit of musical excellence and will use the Napier contest as a measure of progress towards attending the National Contest in Timaru next year. In 2013, New Plymouth will host the National Brass Bands Championships here in New Plymouth.
